Handbuilding: 4 Week (Evening)

Handbuilding 101:

Throughout this 4 week course you will learn the fundamentals of handbuilding. Designed to suit all skill levels we will explore different methods of making over 2 hour sessions giving you the confidence to explore a range of forms. No prior experience needed!

∼ Week 1: An introduction to clay and building basic forms with the pinching method. We will also look at how to join clay and create an object out of coiling.

∼ Week 2: A look at slab building forms and using drape molds, we we address how to build larger forms using coiling. We will also look at surface design and adding texture, handles or foot rings.

∼ Week 3: Building on the previous two weeks and having mastered the techniques, you will have the opportunity to continue your pieces or create something new; a cup, vase, candle holder or sculpture. Come with an idea in mind - or just an open mind and we will design something together.

∼ Week 4: You will create 2 - 3 pieces in total that we will glaze on this final week.

These will be ready for collection from the studio 4 weeks after firing to 1200°c.

What’s if I don’t live close to collect my pieces?
Not to worry, items can be posted via An Post parcel for 10 euro.

What do I need to bring?
We provide aprons but wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
