Sustainability

In our efforts to minimise the mark we leave we are active in trying to reduce our consumption and waste.

𓇼 This starts with where we source our material either buying from a provider in Ireland or even better digging the clay ourselves in a responsible manner.

𓇼 In the production process when making, anything that doesn’t work out can be made back into a ball of clay - no matter how dry it is!

𓇼 When firing being mindful of what goes in the kiln. Once a piece is bisque fired to 1000°C it cannot return to a workable clay state. Choosing what pieces to keep and fire was a learning curve for us, while it’s lovely to look back at your first pieces of handmade ceramics in your home to see how far you have come, you can also accumulate a lot of pokey ceramic items.

𓇼 Finally, when firing the kilns can reach 1200°C over a number of hours, that a lot of electricity! Luckily, with solar panels installed this reduces the grid electricity usage.
